Clematis versicolor Small ex Rydb.
The native range covered by Clematis versicolor extends from a small part of Kentucky through Tennesse to just the northern part of Alabama, parts of Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma and two locations in Texas. Versicolor is a vine with mostly unlobed leaves and typical foliage is odd pinnately compound, prominently reticulate on both sides, with the terminal leaflet having a tendril. Flowers are a pale lavender to reddish purple fading to green at the tips. This is a shorter vine than many others in the subgenus. Seed heads are ornamental. Images:Identification:Distribution:
